The U.S. government warned citizens to "exercise caution" when traveling throughout Mexico, citing an increased risk of political violence before the country´s new president takes office Dec. 1.

The United States also repeated its warning to avoid travel to Oaxaca City. Protest- ers and police continue to engage in violent clashes and "random shootings" in Oaxaca even after President Fox sent more than 4,500 federal police there to restore order on Oct. 30, the U.S. Department of States said in an e-mailed press release.

Protesters throughout Mexico and even Mexico City may use the anniversary of the Revolution on Nov. 20 and the swearing in of President-elect Felipe Calderón to stage protests that could become violent, the U.S Embassy said.
