Mexico City Mayor Marcelo Ebrard on Saturday said his government´s controversial practice of expropriating buildings where drug trafficking activities are discovered will continue.Last week, the city government delivered eviction notices to 75 families living in a building in the Tepito neighborhood. After days of protests, the mayor suspended the eviction procedure temporarily and will meet with representatives of the families on Tuesday.
City spokesman say the apartment complex in Tepito is the No. 1 distribution and warehousing site for drugs and stolen goods in the capital.
On Saturday, the mayor said the working-class Iztapalapa precinct would be the next target for inspectors.
"We have found that more drug sales take place in Iztapalapa than any other borough in the city," Ebrard said.
